Editing

Whether you shoot it or you hire us to shoot it, we can edit it. Editing includes the combining of multiple digital, video, and/or film camera angles into our computer, and then reorganizing the content in a "timeline."  A timeline is something like an electronic tabletop puzzle board that’s viewable on the computer’s desktop(s) (but is stored in one or more harddrive(s).  The content is visually manipulated using a mouse and keyboard and is viewable via two large monitors.  Sound from the project is monitored through amplified studio stereo speakers. When your program is finalized and approved for mastering, we can add special effects, motion titles, a library of digital stock video, music, sound effects and narration.  We master your fial program to any format of choice such as a Quciktime, Windows Media, DVD, Mini DV, DV Cam, BetaCam SP or the web.

You receive expert service using the latest in non-linear, Mac Final Cut Pro software.

So what is Non-linear editing?

According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia,
Non-linear editing for film and television postproduction is a modern editing method that involves being able to access any frame in a video clip (whether 24 or 30 frames in a second) with the same ease as any other. This method is similar in concept to the "cut and paste" technique used in film editing from the beginning. It can also be viewed as the audio/video equivalent of word-processing. However, when working with film, (cutting with a physical scizzors) it is a destructive process, as the actual film negative must be cut. Non-linear, (electronic, computerized editing) non-destructive methods began to appear with the introduction of digital video technology.

Video and audio data are first captured to hard disks or other digital storage devices. The data is either recorded directly to the storage device or is imported from another source. Once imported they can be edited on a computer using any of a wide range of software.

In non-linear editing, the original source files are not lost or modified during editing. Professional editing software records the decisions of the editor in an edit decision list (EDL), which can be interchanged with other editing tools. Many generations and variations of the original source files can exist without needing to store many different copies, allowing for very flexible editing. It also makes it easy to change cuts and undo previous decisions simply by editing the edit decision list…(or by hiiting the undo key on the computer’s keyborad). Loss of quality is also avoided due to not having to repeatedly re-encode the data when different effects (or layering) are applied.

Compared to the linear method of tape-to-tape editing, (and signal loss and tape degradation with each copy of a copy) non-linear editing offers the flexibility of film editing, with random access and easy project organization, while maintaing picture and audio qulaity.
